Taste: Port Washington Fish Day

By Caitlin Kavanaugh

When was the last time you were able to feel competitive while enjoying a succulent fish fry? Look no further than Port Washington Fish Day, July 18, where ice cream and smoked fish eating contests are well-contested each year.

Held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fish Day has been serving up deep fried fish and chips, beer and soda since 1964. Now, the event accommodates nine vendor booths, each run by volunteers from charitable organizations who funnel profits back into the Port Washington community.

Inviting melodies fill the lakefront from Upper Lake Park to the marina, where stages dot the eating grounds to provide a steady stream of live music.

Be sure to get there early to see hundreds of runners kick off the day, building their appetites at a fun run/walk.

Too full to even dream about running? Don't worry, there's plenty of fun for all ages, including a parade, carnival rides, arts and crafts fair, and car show.

At the end of all the excitement, a fireworks show caps off the night-at this point, fest-goers might be ready to burst along with the fireworks.
